Prime Speaker Vannifar and Baral, Chief of Compliance

In their latest update, Prime Speaker Vannifar and Baral, Chief of Compliance got banned in Duel Commander. So, some people ask us, does this have any impact on Teamcommander ?

As said before, Teamcommander is happily a totally independent format for its own.

But, you may ask, you do say that your lists can be used for duel, too?

Our lists are not primarily designed for head-to-head games, but we think they are quite good even for a head-to head game- at least in a real head-to-head format with 30 life, commander damage etc.

The main reason why we don’t see a reason to ban neither Prime Speaker Vannifar nor Baral, Chief of Compliance yet is the fact that we banned all the REAL frustrating cards behind these Commanders. So, to cite from the Duelcommander Website: „Regarding those archetypes, “extra turns” decks with Baral, Chief of Compliance as a commander seem more toxic to us than non-Baral, Chief of Compliance High Tide-based decks.“ – As we always said, extra turns (especially in a two-headed format!!!) are neither fun for the opponent (falling asleep … ) nor balanced and fair. So Baral Decks are still strong and good without Extra-turns and playable in Teamcommander – we have banned the extra Turns.

Same goes for Vannifar: without Protean Hulk and Combospieces, he is a strong commander with the ability to search actively for matching card solutions in your deck, but he is less potent and dangerous. We will nevertheless watch him 😉
