RULES Update > BIG CHANGE < in August 2023

We do like our format. We LOVE it! We still think it is better than Free-for-all Commander.

We still point out, that the „official Free-for-all Commander rules“ by themself say they are just a mere basic outline for rules and banned list, neither seeking to regulate or balance the game. It is fat underlines that it represents a BASELINE, and players MUST discuss and make up their own additional rules so that it will work.

Or with other words:The official rules are in most cases not enough to provide a good, balanced banned list, but should be enhanced. While these agreements are very personal, and every person’s game experience, game group and meta will vary, we think tghat our lists here are especially tailored towards a more balanced game and are especially tailored topwards Teamplay.

Of course you are free to make up your own lists and rules, but it will be more complicated to discuss and vote for hundreds of cards and decisions than accept a good balanced ruleset and maybe forgo on a certain card but therfor saving a lot of time and energy.

Our lists were tailored for 2HG. We still will keep this idea up.

BUT… we will open up our rules and bannings, so players coming from „Free-for-all-Magic“ will have an easier access to Teamplay.

We will also adjust our basic rules to make fewer differences betwen the formats.

The Mulligan RULE:
  • from beginning of September 2023, TEamcommander uses the official „London“ Mulligan rule.
  • Please keep in mind that according to the Multiplayer Rule, the first Mulligan is still free.

We do know, that even the „Free-for-all-Commander-Team“ were more willing to use other Mulligan rules, saying that our „set-aside and don’t reshuffle unwanted Cards“ system was good ! [Link here !]

We know that our system was widely knows and spread out, that even MTG Wiki posted it as a very comnmoan and beloved Mulligan variant. [Link here !]

Nevertheless, we want to make Teamcommander more leaned towards the „offical“ rules, and therefore switch to the London Mulligan, which is already active for over 3 years now.

Have Fun and Good Games ! – The Teamcommander-Team
